The department includes six subjects, taught in all the three professionals throughout the course. This department by laying down a solid foundation of clear understanding of the fundamentals of Ayurveda enables the students to understand all other subjects better, where these fundamentals are invariably applicable.
The subjects are practically exemplified and clinical cases are quoted to explain the principles. Students are encouraged to learn the original texts with their commentaries. Various dictionaries, reference books and encyclopedias are utilized for better understanding. The external information is presented in flow charts, schematic diagrams and tables, which make learning easier.
Efforts are being made to promote Sanskrit through some projects, since knowledge of Sanskrit is essential for proper understanding of the Ayurvedic texts. |

It deals with the study of human body, dissecting preserved human cadavers & pre-dissected specimens. Four cadavers are used per batch of 40 students. Nomenclature to the various parts of the body as described in the ancient texts & modern science is explained.
The museum of the department has various specimens dissected & prepared by the department apart from different charts & models. |

“Sharira Kriya” deals with physiological study of Sharira defining Sharira as conglomeration of five Mahabhootas, Mind & Atma. The doctrine of three Doshas in its normalcy & its relation with seven tissues – Sapta Dhatus & three Malas, form the entire base of human physiology in Ayurveda.
Individual constitutional differences “Prakriti which is highly acclaimed today with the decoding of human DNA, has its origin – already explained in Ayurveda, forms the important aspect of study in this department. |

The department also educates patients about the proper diet & Yoga.
To produce health awareness & for guidance about Ayurvedic health care methods, various camps, public lectures & workshops are also arranged. Time to time health surveys are conducted for assessment of health in the society & accordingly various beneficial projects & research works are undertaken - like the project on prevention of hair fall & beauty care. |

Agadatantra grabs the position in the Astang Ayurveda due to its importance and the utility in the community. The department deals with the detailed knowledge about the Visha (Poison), its classification, and examination, poisonous effects, their treatment principles, preventive measures. The department contains various slides, models and specimens to explain the hidden aspects of the branch. The Department also deals with the drugs especially herbal drugs used to reduce the poisonous effects of either different animals or plant etc. |

This department which explains the pathogenesis and diagnosis of the diseases is very important, since whole treatment is based on it.
The department has tried to present Ayurvedic description about diseases in comparison with the modern description, Modern concepts about various diseases are also taught to provide greater scope for their Ayurvedic treatment.
The department contains various slides, models and specimens to explain pathology. For practical purposes the students can actually see what they learn, on a good number of patients coming to the OPD & IPD.
The department is having a well-established laboratory, where almost all essential diagnostic tests are conducted. Various instruments including a high-tech auto-analyzer are available. |

Undoubtedly, the existence of life on earth largely depends on plants and as such plants have served the human purpose, both as ‘Diet’ (Ahara) and ‘Drug’ (Aushadha) for ages.

The department deals with the medicines prepared from mercury (Parada) & other adjuvant like metals, minerals, precious stones etc. including the pharmaceutical procedures. Rasa medicines being most potent and efficacious in providing faster relief are also used in acute & emergency conditions.
The department has evolved a full fledged pharmacy which converts the materials from biomass to the useful medicines for IPD & OPD. Many of the required medicines for hospital especially Taila & Ghrita preparations are being supplied. Medicines like Suvarnaprashana & Medha-ayuvardhaka Ghrita needed for special projects of the hospital are also prepared in the department itself. |

Being the biggest and the most important, the department of Kayachikitsa has taken the onus to lead from the front. Principles and practice of medicine are taught with audiovisual aids to the perfection, to suit the needs of student community. As part of curriculum the department is working hard to impart clinical knowledge to the students. In theory classes more emphasis is given on Ayurvedic management of diseases and also elementary knowledge of the modern medicine. In clinical classes the students are engaged in OPD, IPD & Panchakarma on rotation basis. Bedside clinics on IPD patients are regularly held and the students are put on duties for Panchakarma procedures. The students are also encouraged to prepare compilations on various subjects. |

Importance of Surgical & Para-Surgical procedures is well known even to a common man. This department educates the students about the time tested Ayurvedic methods in comparison with the latest methods. Apart from various charts, the department is having most of the essential surgical instruments for demonstration. With nearly 100 minor and some major procedures performed, per month the students get the necessary practical experience in this regard. With a well-equipped operation theatre with facilities like Boyle’s apparatus, students can actually observe, what they learn in the classrooms. Students get regular practical demonstrations of Agnikarma, Viddha-chikitsa, Ksharakarma & Jalaukavacharana on patients. |

Shalakyatantra involves prevention and treatment of diseases of eye, ear, nose, mouth and face. The teaching is done with the help of various charts.
With good number of patients and specialized procedures like Tarpana, Nasya etc., the students get good practical experience under proper guidance of the experts. |

This department aims for prevention & cure of various problems relating gynecology and obstetrics.
The teaching is aided with various charts. There are various models for demonstrations, through which students can learn the subjects better. Many transparencies are also used for audio-visual presentations. Various instruments are available for proper knowledge about their use.
Being a clinical subject, the students practically learn by actually observing the patients being treated. Pure Ayurvedic treatments are offered. Various Ayurvedic procedures like Pichu, Uttarabasti etc. are performed regularly, so that the students learn and gain confidence about them. An operation theatre, full of essential amenities, is also being used. |

This OPD offers complete Ayurvedic management for many of the pediatric disorders including Cerebral palsy, polio myelitis, Muscular dystrophy etc. Delayed milestones is another important area where this department is constantly producing good results through Ayurvedic treatment.
Recently special camp series is going on for Suvarnaprashanna in children under 5 years of age. It is orally administered in the form of drops with an intention of overall improvement in general immunity, intelligence, metabolism & growth in the recipients. |
